Bugs For Beginners With Jay Buchner
Jay Buchner is an expert angler, guide, and fly tier who has spent a lifetime studying the bugs that trout feed on. In this video he shares his understanding of the insects and aquatic forms that make up the majority of a trout’s diet. He puts it in terms we all can understand. Jay is based out of his home in Jackson, Wyoming.
Types of Flies examined in the video are stoneflies, caddisflies, and mayflies, two of the larger insects trout can’t resist. The scud or sow bug and the leech get some coverage as well, since they are essential food forms for trout. In addition Jay will show us some of the fly patterns designed to imitate these insects.
A Bug Eye View is what you’ll get in this graphic video that looks both above and below water at the insects we study. You’ll see the living creatures up close in their natural environment, swimming in viewing dishes, and displayed in specimen bottles. This entomology of bugs we imitate when fly fishing will make you a better angler.
