What floating fly line to choose - help
DT or WF floating fly line - most of the floating fly lines are the WF type, however, in case of dry fly fishing some fishermen prefer the DT type. The shape of the further section is of lesser importance as fishermen who use dry flies tend to fish within a distance of 10m. However, due to their construction (identical both ends) DT lines make it possible to use the other end of the line after the first one has been worn out, thus providing them some financial savings.
Shape of WF floating fly line taper – depending on the technique, the shape of the fly line taper determines whether a fly line should be used for delicate presentation, long shots or whether it a universal line. This is obtained through appropriate transfer of weight in the fly line taper. Essentially there are three types of constructions. Fly lines for delicate presentation usually have a relatively fine and long tip section which gradually becomes thicker towards the other section of the taper where the main weight lies. These proportions are reversed in longer shot fly lines and in universal lines the distribution of weight is relatively even. Manufacturers usually provide information about the properties of a given fly line – the differences are not very big.
